Time Landscape

Alan Sonfist created the first environmental land art sculpture for New York City. The DOT commissioned the site-specific landscape in 1965 and it has become part of the fabric of the city of New York. Time Landscape is a creation of a precolonial forest visualizing how the city looked before urbanization. The site is in a densely populated area of Greenwich village where it has become a functioning oasis of an ancient forest.
